Coverage
FishDataPoint is in early access. We cover a small set of California places, each reviewed by hand, so we can check every station and data source. This page shows exactly what each place supports.
Reviewed places
All 10 are in California. Times are Pacific Time (America/Los_Angeles).

Every place has:
- solunar fishing windows
- sun and moon times
- moon phase
- hourly weather for about the next 7 days
- a 7-day outlook
- a monthly fishing calendar
- notes about the spot with links to the official rules authority
What the columns mean:
- "Full curve" means the station supplies both high/low times and hourly predicted heights. All seven of our stations are NOAA harmonic (reference) stations.
- Tides pages: each coastal place has a tides page with a 14-day high/low table and, for today, a "Tide right now" estimate. That estimate is interpolated between predicted highs and lows, not observed. Inland places have no tides page.
- 7-day outlook: every place has one, with weather only as far as the forecast goes.
- Official NWS alerts: every reviewed place, for its forecast zone, county and (on the coast) marine zone, fetched by your browser when you open the page and every 5 minutes while it's open. Searched locations don't get alerts.
- Offline: the site can be installed as an app. Up to 10 reviewed-place pages you've viewed recently (forecast, tides, 7-day and calendar) open without a connection, marked "may be out of date" with the time they were saved. Searched locations and downloads aren't available offline.
- Lake level: Lake Tahoe only, from the USGS Tahoe City gauge (latest reading, its time and whether it's provisional). Shasta Lake and Big Bear Lake show "Lake level not available for this lake" for now.
- Sea conditions: modelled wave and swell (not observations), for open-coast places only: Pacific Beach, Santa Monica Pier, Santa Barbara and Monterey. Sheltered bays and harbors (San Diego, San Pedro, San Francisco) show "Not applicable — sheltered bay", because wave models describe the open ocean. Lakes and searched locations have no sea panel.
- Downloads (reviewed places only; searched points can't be downloaded):
- a calendar file (.ics) of solunar fishing windows: the next 30 days by default, up to 31 days starting on any date within a year of today
- a printable PDF of any monthly calendar within 12 months of now. It is astronomy only (windows, moon phase, sunrise and sunset), with no weather or tides.
- Forecast point is the spot the weather, sun and moon are calculated for. On large lakes, conditions elsewhere on the lake can differ noticeably.
Dates
- Astronomy and tides: any date up to one year before or after today.
- Weather: only as far ahead as the forecast goes (about 7 days). Further-out dates show astronomy and tides only, and the page says so.
- Past weather: not available. Past dates show astronomy and tides only, and never today's weather.
- Monthly calendar: 12 months either side of the current month, with weather only for the next 7 days.
Search any place
You can search for other towns and landmarks, or use your location. Those pages show solunar windows, sun and moon times and weather. They are not reviewed fishing spots:
- They have no tides, because we haven't checked which tide station is right for them.
- They have no spot notes.
- They can't be saved to My Places yet.
- They are clearly labelled:
- "Town centre, not a fishing spot" for a search result
- "Selected point (rounded to about 100 m), not a reviewed fishing spot" for your own location or typed coordinates
Not covered yet
- Places outside our reviewed list, apart from the unreviewed search pages above.
- Tides outside the United States. Worldwide tide data needs a licence we don't have.
- Live water levels, currents and water temperature. Our tides are predictions only.
- Fishing regulations, seasons and closures. We link to the official authority instead.
- Catch reports, maps and community features.
- Accounts and reminders. Saved places stay in your browser; see privacy.
Want a place added? Suggest it via the contact page. We add places only after reviewing station choice, access and local rules.
