About this spot
Spot type
Gulf of Mexico fishing pier. The City of Venice Fishing Pier is at Brohard Park on the south end of the island of Venice, and runs out from the beach into the open Gulf (City of Venice: Fishing Pier). This page's forecast point is on the pier itself (OpenStreetMap: Venice Fishing Pier).
Public access
- Operator: the City of Venice owns the pier. Location: Brohard Park, 1600 S. Harbor Drive, Venice (City of Venice: Fishing Pier).
- Hours and admission: as of 2026-10-16, the city lists the pier as open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with free admission (City of Venice: Fishing Pier).
- Status, as of 2026-10-16: the city says the pier's T-structure was heavily damaged by Hurricanes Helene and Milton in fall 2024 and was repaired in August–September 2025. The city's pier page shows no closure notice (City of Venice: Fishing Pier). Check the city page before you go.
- On and near the pier: a bait shop is midway down the pier; as of 2026-10-16 the city lists it as open daily, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Nearby are picnic shelters, public restrooms, a pavilion and a restaurant. The city also lists fish-cleaning stations on the pier (City of Venice: Fishing Pier).
- Not allowed on the pier: dogs, glass containers, tobacco products and tents. Bicycling, skating, rollerblading and skateboarding are also prohibited on the pier, and swimming is not allowed close to it (City of Venice: Fishing Pier).
Commonly caught species
- FWC names Venice Fishing Pier as a popular fishing location in Sarasota County. For Manatee and Sarasota inshore and coastal waters, it lists cobia, Gulf flounder, ladyfish, mullet, pompano, red drum, sheepshead, snook, spotted seatrout and tarpon (FWC: Where to Saltwater Fish).
Local rules and authority
- Rules agency: the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) sets saltwater fishing rules (FWC: Saltwater Fishing).
- City pier rules: the City of Venice bans gear used for shark fishing on the pier and limits how many lines each angler may have in the water. See the city's pier page and the city's parks code for the details (City of Venice: Fishing Pier; City of Venice Code of Ordinances, Chapter 46).
- Licence: the City's pier page says "No fishing license is required." FWC explains that a saltwater fishing pier licence, issued to a pier's owner, operator or custodian, covers everyone saltwater fishing from that pier. Check with the city or FWC if you're unsure (City of Venice: Fishing Pier; FWC: Vessel and Pier Licenses).
- Regulations: check FWC's current rules for size limits, bag limits and seasons before fishing (FWC: Saltwater Fishing).
- Fish consumption: see the Florida Department of Health's fish consumption advisories before eating your catch (Florida Department of Health: Eating Healthy Seafood).
Tide station
- NOAA 8725858, "Venice Municipal Airport" (station metadata name: "VENICE"), at 27.0717 N, 82.4533 W (NOAA station metadata; NOAA prediction stations list).
- Type: reference station. NOAA's tide-prediction station list gives it type "R", and NOAA publishes a harmonic-constituent table for it (NOAA prediction stations list; NOAA harmonic constituents).
- Same water body: yes. The station is on the Gulf shore at Brohard Park, next to the pier, and it's about 0.1 mi in a straight line from the forecast point (computed from NOAA and OpenStreetMap coordinates, [7]; [11]). The nearest other reference station, Nokomis, Venice Inlet, is inside the inlet to the north, which is different water from an open-Gulf pier (NOAA: Nokomis, Venice Inlet).
