About this spot
Spot type
Ocean fishing pier at Jetty Park, on the Atlantic beach at the south side of the Port Canaveral entrance. The Canaveral Port Authority describes Jetty Park as having a beach, a "popular fishing pier" and a campground, with views of cruise ships as they sail past (Port Canaveral: Jetty Park; Port Canaveral: Beach & Pier).
Public access
- Operator: Jetty Park is run by the Canaveral Port Authority (Port Canaveral: Jetty Park).
- Hours: the Port says Jetty Park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and that the beach, park and pier close at 9 p.m. daily (Port Canaveral: Beach & Pier).
- Entry and parking: parking at Jetty Park requires a pre-purchased day pass or an annual pass, bought online; the Port says no credit card or cash transactions are accepted at the entrance gate. When the park reaches capacity, entry is paused; a day pass bought for a specific date guarantees entry, an annual pass does not (Port Canaveral: Beach & Pier). Passes are sold through the Port's online store (Port Canaveral: Purchase Passes).
- Where to fish: the Port's answer to "Where am I allowed to fish in and around the Port?" is to follow posted signage (Port Canaveral: Beach & Pier).
- Park rules relevant to anglers: fishing from the jetty rocks is not allowed, and neither is beach or shore fishing anywhere in Jetty Park; fish from the pier. The rocks themselves are off limits, and diving or jumping off the pier, and swimming or floating in the inlet or channel, are prohibited (Port Canaveral: Jetty Park Rules & Regulations).
- Status: as of 2026-10-16, the Port's Jetty Park, Beach & Pier and rules pages show no pier closure or storm-damage notice ([1]; [2]; [4]). Check the Port's Jetty Park pages before you go; the Port's park phone number is (321) 783-7111 ([2]).
Commonly caught species
- A fishing-charter guide says the Port Canaveral jetties and shipping channels hold bull redfish, tarpon, jack crevalle and snook. It describes the jetties and channels generally, not the pier itself (BaitYourHook: Fishing in Port Canaveral, secondary).
- For identifying your catch, see FWC's saltwater fish profiles (FWC: Saltwater Fish).
Local rules and authority
- Rules agency: the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Check FWC's current rules for size limits, bag limits and seasons before fishing (FWC: Saltwater Fishing).
- Licence: FWC lists "individuals saltwater fishing from a pier with a valid saltwater pier license" among those who do not need their own licence (FWC: Do I Need a License?). Ask the Port whether this pier holds one; otherwise check FWC's saltwater licence page (FWC: Saltwater Recreational Licenses and Permits).
- Shore-based shark fishing: FWC requires a shore-based shark fishing permit, in addition to a saltwater licence, when taking or attempting to take sharks from shore, including jetties, bridges and piers; check FWC's page for who needs it (FWC: Saltwater Recreational Licenses and Permits).
- Fish consumption: before eating your catch, check the Florida Department of Health's fish consumption guidance and advisories (Florida Department of Health: Eating Healthy Seafood).
Tide station
- NOAA 8721604, "Trident Pier, Port Canaveral" (prediction list name: "Port Canaveral (Trident Pier)"), at 28.4158 N, 80.5931 W (NOAA station metadata; NOAA station home).
- Type: reference station. NOAA's tide-prediction station list gives it type "R", and NOAA publishes a harmonic-constituent table for it (NOAA prediction stations list; NOAA harmonic constituents).
- Same water body: the station is in the Port Canaveral entrance, about 0.6 mi in a straight line north-northwest of the pier (computed from NOAA and OpenStreetMap coordinates, [11]; [15]). The pier is on the open-ocean side of the inlet mouth.
