About this spot
Spot type
Ocean fishing pier on the Atlantic, part of the City of Lake Worth Beach's Casino and Beach Complex. The City calls it the Lake Worth Beach Pier, also known as the William O. Lockhart Municipal Pier (City of Lake Worth Beach: Casino and Beach Complex; City of Lake Worth Beach, 2024-09-27).
Public access
- Operator: City of Lake Worth Beach. The City says the complex has an oceanfront park, restrooms and picnic facilities next to the pier, and lists fishing among the things to do at the pier (City of Lake Worth Beach: Casino and Beach Complex; City of Lake Worth Beach: Beach and Pier).
- Hours: in a notice dated 2024-09-27, the City said the pier is open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight (City of Lake Worth Beach, 2024-09-27). Check with the City for current hours.
- Parking: the City's Parking Division manages beach parking areas and publishes beach parking rates and permits (City of Lake Worth Beach: Parking).
- Storm closures: the City closes the pier ahead of high winds and heavy swells and inspects it for damage before reopening. It did so in October 2024 (City of Lake Worth Beach, 2024-10-07); after a September 2024 closure, it reopened the pier once an inspection found no damage (City of Lake Worth Beach, 2024-09-27).
- Status: as of 2026-10-16, the City's Beach and Pier page and its news page show no closure notice for the pier (City of Lake Worth Beach: Beach and Pier; City of Lake Worth Beach: News).
Commonly caught species
- A local newspaper's fishing column says Spanish mackerel reach Palm Beach County's coast in late fall and winter, and that casting jigs, spoons or lures from the Lake Worth Pier can produce them, especially after a cold front (The Coastal Star, 2018-11-28, secondary).
Local rules and authority
- Rules agency: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Check FWC's current rules for size limits, bag limits and seasons before fishing (FWC: Saltwater Fishing).
- Licence: FWC says anglers fishing from a pier that holds a valid saltwater pier licence don't need their own licence; otherwise, check FWC's licence rules before fishing (FWC: Do I need a license or permit?).
- Sharks: FWC says a shore-based shark fishing permit is required to take or attempt to take sharks from shore, including piers, with no exemptions, even for anglers who are exempt from the licence requirement (FWC: Saltwater Recreational Licenses and Permits).
- Fish consumption: before eating your catch, check the Florida Department of Health's fish consumption advisories (Florida Department of Health: Eating Healthy Seafood).
Tide station
- NOAA 8722670, "Lake Worth Pier, Atlantic Ocean" (prediction list name: "Lake Worth Pier (ocean)"), at 26.6128 N, 80.0342 W (NOAA station metadata; NOAA station home).
- Type: reference station. NOAA's tide-prediction station list gives it type "R", and NOAA publishes a harmonic-constituent table for it (NOAA prediction stations list; NOAA harmonic constituents).
- Same water body: yes. The station is on the Atlantic at the pier itself, about 0.1 km (0.07 mi) in a straight line east of the forecast point, near the pier's outer end (computed from NOAA and OpenStreetMap coordinates, [12]; [16]). It is not NOAA's "Lake Worth ICW" station, which is on the lagoon side.
