About this spot

Spot type

Ocean fishing pier on the south (Atlantic) shore of Key West. The City of Key West lists the pier as the Edward B. Knight Pier, formerly known as White Street Pier, at 1899 White Street (City of Key West: Edward B. Knight Pier). FWC's Boating and Angling Guide to the Florida Keys lists it as the White Street Fishing Pier, a concrete pier managed by the City of Key West (FWC: White Street Fishing Pier).

Public access

  • Operator: City of Key West. The City's facility page describes the pier as popular with residents and tourists and dog-friendly (City of Key West).
  • Facilities: FWC's guide entry is based on a pier survey dated October 2010. It lists the pier as handicap accessible, with no entrance fee, no bait and tackle, no restrooms and no on-site parking, with a comment of "Parking along Atlantic Beach", and gives hours as 24 hours (FWC: White Street Fishing Pier). These details may have changed since the survey; check with the City of Key West before you go.
  • Status: as of 2026-10-16, the City of Key West's pier page, alert center and news page show no closure or repair notice for the pier (City of Key West; City of Key West: Alert Center; City of Key West: News Flash).

Commonly caught species

  • A fishing-charter booking site lists yellowtail, mutton and mangrove snapper, tarpon, permit, red and black grouper, barracuda, and jacks (yellow jack, amberjack and jack crevalle) among the common catches at the White Street Pier, and says the catch varies with season and time of day (Captain Experiences: The 4 Best Fishing Piers in Key West, secondary, 2023).

Local rules and authority

  • Rules agency: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Check FWC's current rules for size limits, bag limits and seasons before fishing (FWC: Saltwater Fishing).
  • Licence: FWC's guide lists this pier as not providing a fishing licence (survey dated October 2010) (FWC: White Street Fishing Pier). FWC says anglers fishing from a pier that holds a valid saltwater pier licence don't need their own licence; otherwise, check FWC's licence rules before fishing (FWC: Do I need a license or permit?).
  • Sharks: Fishing for sharks from shore, including from piers, needs FWC's shore-based shark fishing permit. FWC says there are no exemptions from that permit, even for people exempt from the licence; see FWC for who needs one (FWC: Saltwater Recreational Licenses and Permits).
  • Fish consumption: before eating your catch, check the Florida Department of Health's fish consumption advisories (Florida Department of Health: Eating Healthy Seafood).

Tide station

  • NOAA 8724557, "Key West, south side, White Street Pier", at the pier itself, about 0.1 mi from the forecast point (NOAA prediction stations list; NOAA tide prediction offsets).
  • Type: subordinate station. NOAA predicts its high and low tides by adjusting its reference station, 8724580 Key West on the island's harbor side. At White Street Pier, high tide comes 53 minutes earlier and low tide 31 minutes earlier than at the reference station (NOAA tide prediction offsets; NOAA station metadata).
  • What this page shows: NOAA's high and low tide times and heights for this station. NOAA doesn't publish a continuous tide curve for subordinate stations, so there is no "tide right now" curve here (NOAA high/low predictions).
  • Same water body: yes. The station is on White Street Pier, on Key West's south (Atlantic) shore.
