About this spot
Spot type
River-mouth jetty and beach. Huguenot Memorial Park, a City of Jacksonville park, sits on the north side of the St. Johns River mouth. The City lists "North Jetties & St. Johns River to Atlantic Ocean" among the park's features, and lists fishing among its activities (City of Jacksonville: Huguenot Memorial Park features). The forecast point is where the north jetty meets the beach (OpenStreetMap).
Public access
- Operator and address: Huguenot Memorial Park, 10980 Heckscher Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32226, managed by the City of Jacksonville. Office and reservations: (904) 255-4255 (City of Jacksonville: Huguenot Memorial Park; Huguenot Memorial Park rules, revised 2026-04-21).
- Hours: the park rules (revised 2026-04-21) give 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. from April through October, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from November through March, and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. The office and admissions close one hour before the park closes (Huguenot Memorial Park rules).
- Entry: the City charges an admission fee on each entry, for pedestrians and cyclists and for vehicles; amounts are on the City's park page (City of Jacksonville: Huguenot Memorial Park; [3]).
- Beach driving: the City says access to the Atlantic Ocean side requires driving through extremely soft sand, recommends four-wheel drive, and suggests that two-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles park on Family Beach or in the designated parking areas. Beach driving is at your own risk (City of Jacksonville: Huguenot Memorial Park).
- Closures: the City says the park sometimes closes because of high tides, capacity or unsafe conditions, and that the north end of the peninsula closes to vehicles seasonally for nesting shorebirds (City of Jacksonville: Huguenot Memorial Park). As of 2026-10-16, the City's page also says the main roadway was damaged by erosion along the river and a temporary road lets the park open; the page gives no date for that notice ([1]).
- Park rules for anglers: the park rules say no fishing is allowed in "zone 6" for safety reasons, and that campsites can't be used for day use or fishing without camping there. Dogs are not allowed for day visitors (Huguenot Memorial Park rules).
Commonly caught species
- No species source specific to the Huguenot jetty could be confirmed. For identifying your catch, see FWC's saltwater fish profiles (FWC: Saltwater Fish).
Local rules and authority
- Rules agency: the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Check FWC's current rules for size limits, bag limits and seasons before fishing (FWC: Saltwater Fishing).
- Licence: the park rules say licences are required for resident and non-resident saltwater fishing in accordance with FWC laws (Huguenot Memorial Park rules). See FWC for who needs a licence (FWC: Do I Need a License?; FWC: Saltwater Recreational Licenses and Permits).
- Shore-based shark fishing: FWC requires a shore-based shark fishing permit, in addition to a saltwater licence, when taking or attempting to take sharks from shore, including jetties, bridges and piers; check FWC's page for who needs it (FWC: Saltwater Recreational Licenses and Permits).
- Fish consumption: before eating your catch, check the Florida Department of Health's fish consumption guidance and advisories (Florida Department of Health: Eating Healthy Seafood).
